The mural above was commissioned for St. Paul`s Medical Centre, Carlisle, produced by the artist, Barrie Ormsby, on site, after a long period of consultation with the medical staff through preparatory drawings (Arts in Healthcare Award 1992).

Our experience of work in this field includes:

Romey Chaffer & Barrie Ormsby have many years experience of working with Hospices.

Romey Chaffer runs regular workshops for a Geriatric Psychiatric Unit at Earls House Hospital, Durham.

Barrie Ormsby has run Workshops for GP Trainers in Durham for the past few years, using visual arts techniques to develop communication skills (University of Newcastle Department of Medicine & Dentistry.).

The mural “The 1950's” was completed in 2009 for the Dining Room at Highfield Ward. Painted by Romey Chaffer, patients and staff, as part of their “Health & Wellbeing” programme. Commissioned by Highfield Ward, Bowes Lyon Unit, Lanchester Road Hospital , Durham , funded by the Mayor's Appeal.

Community Sector

“Monday Afternoon Group” – a workshop for 18 adults with learning disabilities, funded by Durham County Council and the Northern Rock Foundation.

2 artists provide weekly workshops in a variety of media including painting in acrylic, oil & watercolour, drawing, batik, printing, clay work, collage, paper-making, sculpture. Specialist skills are brought in by other artists such as working with mosaic, textiles, stone carving, stained-glass and music.

Bearpark Artists Co-op are contracted as ‘Willing Providers' for the ‘Arts for Wellbeing' project, County Durham NHS Primary Care Trust.
